Michael McKean, Enid Graham and John Douglas Thompson will join the previously announced Sam Waterston in King Lear at the Public Theater this fall. Waterston will tackle the title role, joined by McKean as Gloucester, Graham as Goneril and Thompson as Kent. James McDonald directs the Shakespeare classic, which will run from October 18 to November 20. Additional casting is forthcoming.
When King Lear divides his kingdom among his three daughters, he sets in motion a cascade of violence that sweeps the civilized world to the brink of chaos, and Lear to the edge of madness.
McKean has appeared on Broadway in Tracy Letts’ Superior Donuts, Hairspray and The Homecoming. His film credits include This is Spinal Tap, Clue, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind and For Your Consideration. Graham’s Broadway credits include Honour, The Constant Wife, Dinner at Eight and Fortune’s Fool. Thompson has been seen on Broadway in Julius Caesar and Cyrano de Bergerac; off-Broadway credits include Othello, The Emperor Jones, The Forest, Antony and Cleopatra and King Lear.
